Interview with Matthew C. Horne
How did you come up with the title?
This is an interesting question…let me think for a second? How did I come up with the title?
I was actually on a flight coming back from a conference in Denver. I had every intention of
going to sleep, but I couldn’t. And out of nowhere the title and the corresponding ideas that
would complete each chapter came to me all at once. I believe that we are all supernatural
beings having a natural experience. Our Creator often times deliberately interrupts us to add
His super to our natural, but we must be willing to allow these divine interruptions to
manifest the perfection that resides in each of us. This is the only explanation I have. I had
an entire book outlined and titled on a two hour flight.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Yes there is. Other people’s opinion does not have to become your reality! In my book I
chronicle my life experiences, from receiving a full-athletic scholarship to play Division I
basketball to even writing my first book, and I show how these major accomplishments in my
life happened as a result of my staying with what I believed in my heart, as opposed to
listening to the negative voices around me who didn’t share the same gargantuan vision for
my life. That’s the unending message of my book…. Listen to that still small voice within,
because in all actuality it knows things about you that you don’t know about yourself. It will
always lead you to your best life possible!

What are your current projects?
My current projects are my third book, as well as my first audio project which I’ve entitled:
The Uncut Diamond Within: How to Discover the True You. I’ll disclose more info about my
third book in the near future, but I’m more comfortable discussing my audio, which will be
released in the very near future. It’s ten insights on how to recognize the brilliance and
genius that everyone possesses but so rarely connects to. This audio will help introduce
anyone to their inner-genius and greatness. It’s the perfect compliment to my latest book,
“The Universe is Inviting You In.” The proper cuts in any diamond will bring it an
unparalleled glisten. This audio will serve as the sculptor!

Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
This is an easy one…God! This mission of introducing the masses to their true selves has
encompassed my entire being. The only thing is, at times, I don’t know how I will accomplish
such an enormous desire. The wherewithal and ability to complete such a task surpasses my
greatest and most debilitating areas of intelligence. God has given me a supernatural ability
to do what I do, and He is the support for my success; past, present and future.

Do you see writing as a long-term career?
I do indeed. I also see it as an eternal assignment. I have no idea how I ended up writing two
books before my twenty-fourth birthday. If you would have asked me what my long term
career plans were 10 years ago, I would have looked you dead in the eye and said “NBA.” I
feel like I fell into writing and speaking. No matter how much I wanted to become a great
NBA player there was always someone in my ear bringing my writing and speaking gifts to
my attention. Eventually I realized this was the path I was supposed to take in life. It’s an
evolution like nothing I’ve ever experienced on the basketball court. The only contract
waiting for me at the end of my collegiate career was my first authorship contract. True

paths aren’t manufactured, they’re discovered. I plan on writing at least one book a year if
that answers your question.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I honestly don’t find anything challenging with writing. It’s the most effortless thing I’ve
ever done. I had to slave in the gym for years to see improvement in my basketball game; It’s
nothing out of the ordinary for me to write a chapter in a day… and be finished by noon. I’m
not saying this to impress anyone, but it’s the effortless gifts which define our true identity.
If questions such as: what in the world is my purpose in life? Plague your internal dialog,
perhaps the answers reside in your effortless gifts. Cultivating these gifts will enable them to
emerge into genius. Genius ensures the highest quality of life you will ever experience.

There’s something that we all do with little to no effort. Find it….cultivate it…and cherish it!

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Yes I do. I heard the motivational speaker and legend Les Brown say “You don’t have to be
great to get started, but you have to get started in order to be great!” That’s it….get started!
So many people have great book ideas trapped inside of them because they won’t take the
necessary measures to bring them to life. I had no idea how I would fill the pages of a book. I
knew in my heart it was something I was supposed to do, and I just got started. That plane
ride from Denver to Washington, DC was a start. It was a modest outline, but it created
momentum. That outline lead to the first three chapters of “The Universe is Inviting You In”
being written in three days. My advice is to just get your ideas out. Dreams must be set in
motion and seen through to completion. Momentum will allow your projects to complete
themselves.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Vote Matthew C. Horne for president…hahaha. But seriously, thank you all for believing in
me. You are all a part of my story, and I hope to be a part of yours! If there’s a lasting
thought that I could leave with you, it is this: If you are willing to set your dreams in motion,
and uncompromisingly see them through until the end, your BEST LIFE POSSIBLE awaits
you!

What do you do outside of writing and speaking?
I work with a tutoring and mentoring company in Washington, DC called Capitol Educational
Support. We work with inner-city DC kids to improve their academic skills, as well as helping
them progress in all aspects of life. It feels good to give back considering I grew up in the
Metropolitan area, and all of the life-changing lessons that growing up in this area has
instilled in me.
